Hello Mutineers!
It’s been a while since I recommended products here but since Amazon is currently offering some great July 4th deals I thought I would let you know about a few of our favorites. As you might have gathered, I love a great deal. Some might say I’m cheap but I prefer the term decerning. After all, I try not to buy things simply because it’s a deal…I tend to seek the best deal possible on what I need whenever possible. In that regard, I hope you also only buy what you need, so please take my suggestions as suggestions.
1- Massage Gun
Okay, I’m kinda breaking my own rule right out of the gate. I never knew I needed a massage gun until I borrowed my sister’s when she came to visit. I truly believe massage is a wonderful tool for personal health and being able to target areas in need at any time is a blessing. In all honesty, I use the massage gun on Maggie, our Miniature Horse, more than on us humans and it’s helped her immensely. Plus, it’s great for bonding time. Amazon’s July 4th sale price is currently 50% off!
2- Solar Security Lighting
We live out in the country where there are zero street lights or ambient city glare. It’s wonderful. But it’s dark dark. While we don’t want to ruin the dark sky atmosphere for migrating birds, insects, and other wildlife (as well as our own enjoyment and that of our neighbors) we still sometimes need to see in the dark. The beauty of these lights is that they only come on when they detect motion. They can also be used virtually anywhere on the property without relying on electricity. They have come in handy around the chicken coop where they tend to deter foxes and other predators when activated.
3- Dog/Pet Car Seat
I have no idea why I waited until two years ago to buy one of these because they are brilliant! It’s true that we rarely have enough people visiting to warrant using our backseat for humans but we do haul dogs, cats, and an occasional goat in the backseat. We also haul feed, plants, bags of shavings, and hiking/snow sports gear that can be very messy. These car seats are the best. I’ll never have a vehicle without one ever again. And what an amazing deal right now!
4-Bidet
I know what you’re thinking…” that’s a weird recommendation from a farm/animal rescue page”. Perhaps, but a bidet is a game-changer. We got ours right before the pandemic hit and boy did it help when the T.P. crisis swept across the world. Ours is a cold water-only model which is a welcome relief on these hot summer days and a brisk wake-up call in winter. I can’t imagine not having one now and the husband agrees (he was against them for a long time and is a total convert now). For less than $30 your bunghoolio will thank you. TMI? Too bad. =)
5- TENS Unit
Continuing on with self-care we love our TENS unit. My first experience with one of these was many moons ago when it seemed that only doctors had them available for in-house treatment. I was being seen for chronic back issues after a few years of gymnastics followed by intense horseback riding that included a bad fall (I still kept riding). Later in life, I had a chiropractor who used them prior to adjustments. Now they are available over the counter. Thank goodness, because they work great on sore muscles after overdoing things on the farm.
6- Nuwave Induction Stove
Would you believe me when I say we have been using the same Nuwave Induction plate since 2015? It’s the exact one we used when we were RVing full-time. Ours is a slightly different model than the one listed below and you can find it here for less than $60. The one below is the newer version that might fill your needs as well. It heats up our water for coffee and tea faster (and more efficiently) than our gas stove and is used at least 6 times a day.
7- Weather Station
I suppose in this day and age we can just look up the weather on our cell phones. The various weather apps and sites seem to be getting a little more accurate but we have found having our own weather station to be very handy. Having the temperature and other information available at a glance (instead of having to wait for an app to load) has been great for our awareness and preparedness. This weather station allows up to 3 remote sensors. Having multiple sensors throughout the property allows us to monitor temps in places like the chicken brooder and grow tunnel Having multiple sensors can also help you determine where your property’s cold sinks are so you can avoid accidentally planting your tomatoes in the coldest part of the yard. The weather station below is fantastic because it also provides the day of the week, date, and time in one unit all for a fantastic price.
8-Thermacell
The line of Thermacell products is still superior to anything else we’ve tried for natural mosquito abatement. Ours has helped protect us from mosquitoes in Alaska and Yellowstone (arguably the worst ever) as well as here on our irrigated farm.
9- Sun Shades
We love our sun shades and as we discover their versatility we keep adding more. They’re fun! They add color and much-needed shade in a variety of places. You can find some great deals right now on different sizes and colors. Take a look!
10- Automatic Chicken Waterers
This is truly a “where have you been all my life” product. After years of dealing with leaky, dirty waterers and spending way too much money on new ones (galvanized, plastic, tubular, nipples) I finally came across this option last year and boy has life been easier. We attached our Lil Cluckers to a 5-gallon bucket with a Gamma lid (for easier filling). Our waterers stay very clean and they’ve never leaked. That means I don’t have to lug water every other day. Guys, water is heavy. This might be my favorite “farm hack” to date.
11-TDS & pH Meters
As much as I wish our animal videos on YouTube would take off it seems most people are interested in the Kratky Hydroponics videos I create instead. That’s okay, I appreciate every single view and comment! But since the gardening videos do so well I would be remiss if I didn’t include this sale item. I use my TDS meter all the time but knowing your pH is important too. This bundle is such a great price considering my TDS meter was $14+ alone. Grab this one while you can!
12- Red Light Therapy
I got this for Maggie, the miniature horse, to help treat her chronic laminitis and arthritis issues. And it’s been great. But we humans have benefitted as well. Clark has found relief for some shoulder issues and I’ve pretty much eliminated the plantar fasciitis that threatened to cripple me last year. Although this item technically isn’t part of the July 4th sale there is a $25 off coupon offered as of this writing (you simply need to click the box under the item that says COUPON and the discount will appear in your cart). Unlike a traditional heating pad, red light therapy doesn’t generate heat which is really nice in the heat of summer.
There are tons of other items on sale now but I wanted to just give a sampling of items we actually use and find “worth it”. Thanks for taking a look and watch for our new YouTube video being released soon!
