Today I had to take Benny, our Border Collie mix, to the vet for a physical and to get some lumps checked out. Benny loves to be in the truck. He loves it so much that sometimes we open the doors and let him get in the truck while it’s parked in the driveway. He will stay there all day, happy as can be. But we never go anywhere because Benny gets car sick. It doesn’t matter if we drive down to the trailhead just a couple of miles away or the whole 15 miles to town…he gets sick and he vomits.
Well, today we didn’t have a choice but to take him to town to see Dr. Michelle. I purposely made an appointment for early morning (830am) so he could skip breakfast thinking he just might make it without throwing up.
Nope.
He threw up on the way there. And then he threw up on the way back. Yellow, goopy bile. Not fun for him and definitely not fun for me. The only saving grace is that last year I bought one of these Waterproof Dog Seat Hammocks for the truck’s backseat. It has over 10,000 5-star reviews which I feel are well-deserved.
Originally, I bought it to try to keep some of the dog hair off the cloth seats so, in the event we actually had visitors, we could pull the hammock out and they might be able to sit in the back seat without getting completely covered in dog hair. It does work great for that but it’s been fantastic for containing Benny’s barf. There’s a lot to be said about not having to clean dog barf from the seat gaps, seat belt buckles, or carpet. I’m also thrilled that I don’t have to try to spot-clean the fabric so our truck can still look presentable.
The other bonus is that when we take the other dogs hiking any dirt, mud, or sand is contained in the hammock. I don’t mind putting a wet, muddy dog in the backseat anymore! That right there makes this a very good investment.
Any day is a good day to buy this seat cover but I’m sharing it today because there happens to be a coupon for $6 off right now (be sure to click the coupon box!). That makes it around $30. I love that there are pockets to put the leashes in so I never have to dig through the rest of my stuff to find one.
Hint: It also makes a nice gift for someone with dogs or, if you have friends like me, people who tend to haul sheep, goats, or pot-bellied pigs in their backseat.
