Hello Mutineers! If you’ve followed us here on the website or on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook, you know that I like to share the things we actually use around Mutiny Ranch. Since our interests are diverse these items range from animal care to gardening implements but also footwear and kitchen gadgets. No matter what the item is though if we recommend it here then we personally own and use it or have researched it enough to have it on our “wishlist”.
The Mutiny Ranch Item of the Day for 4/9/2021 is the Honey Browser Extension. If 2020 showed us anything it’s that online shopping is here to stay. Love it or hate it, the ability to purchase things and have them delivered to your home helped to provide food, health care items, homeschooling supplies and so much more to all of us during the pandemic lockdowns. As things open back up I am still committed to supporting local…when I can.
We live in a small, rural town. There’s no Target, not Marshall’s or TJ Maxx, no Lowes or Home Depot. The nearest Costco and Trader Joe’s is 4 hours away (one way). We had a Sears but it closed down during the pandemic and even then they only carried appliances and lawnmowers. The only place you can buy new household things (like sheets, towels, pots, and pans) is Walmart. So choices are pretty limited…we either make due or do without. Or we shop online when we need to.
Maybe you’re in a similar boat…if so, today’s item of the day is for you!
The Honey Browser Extension is a sweet little tool that helps you determine if you’re getting a good price online. For instance, when I search for a new Bluetooth speaker a little orange box will appear in the upper right corner. When I hover my mouse over the orange box a new box will appear showing if there have been any recent price changes.
You can click on Price History to see any price changes for the item to determine if you’re getting the best deal. You can also add the item to your Droplist which will automatically notify you if the price drops. Now, if you didn’t know, Amazon offers a similar browser extension call Amazon Assistant, which will track prices for 30 days. But, it only works on Amazon. Honey works on thousands of websites and monitors prices on Amazon for 30, 60, 90, or 120 days. Honey will also tell you if another seller on Amazon has the same item at a cheaper price.
Here’s how Honey works on Groupon.
Look up the deal you want and place it in your cart. When you go to check out Honey will let you know it found coupons and it will ask if you’d like to try to apply them…the answer is yes, yes you do. With the click of a button, Honey will automatically try the coupons in its database. Just sit back and relax for a minute.
Then simply check out as normal. It’s really that easy.
Honey works on many of the websites I frequent. Sometimes there aren’t any active coupons so Honey will tell me I already have the best deal. Occasionally, there won’t be any active coupons but the website itself will offer a 5% discount “just because”…that might cover tax or shipping charges so definitely try!
There are other features of Honey you might want to dive into deeper. One is Honey Gold. It works similarly to frequent flyer miles where you accumulate points that can be used later to purchase gift cards (1000 Gold can get you a $10 gift card). Honey also may notify you that the website you’re on has discounted gift cards available (for instance you might be able to get a $25 gift card for $20) and then apply the gift card to your online purchase.
There is a Honey App for both IOS and Android but personally, I don’t find it as easy to use as the desktop version. I believe you have to go to the app first and then find the store you want to shop at in their list. However, I’m sure it becomes easier to use after time.
I hope you’ll give the Honey Browser Extension a try. Who doesn’t want to save an average of $126 per year? They have an excellent safety and security record and will not share your personal information but I do always recommend your own research first. Paypal recently acquired Honey for $4 Billion (US)… it’s here to stay.
As always, we sincerely appreciate it when you use our referral links. The Honey referral link above may qualify us for 500 Honey Gold at no cost to you. These types of rewards go toward our rescue animals’ upkeep as well as to help assist the rescues of other animals.
