Hello Mutineers! If you’ve followed us here on the website or on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook, you know that I like to share the things we actually use around Mutiny Ranch. Since our interests are diverse these items range from animal care to gardening implements but also footwear and kitchen gadgets. No matter what the item is though if we recommend it here then we personally own and use it or have researched it enough to have it on our “wishlist”.
Today’s Item of the Day (3/17/2021) is the RONXS Plasma Arc BBQ Lighter. It never fails…your nice gas BBQ grill’s electric starter craps out and you’re scrambling to light the thing with a short match or BIC lighter without burning yourself in the process. And chances are, even if you have a long, disposable lighter the fluid has dried up.
It’s tempting to just toss a couple of cheap disposable long lighters into the shopping cart. They’re usually only a few bucks and the store has them placed right at the check-out line…that’s called the impulse aisle. But I have another option for you…the RECHARGEABLE RONXS Plasma Arc BBQ Lighter.
The RONXS has a long, flexible neck making it easier to get the spark to the places you need (like the pilot light on a water heater or furnace). Rather than a flame, it creates an arc to light candles, gas stoves, BBQ grills, fireplaces, and on and on. Instead of tossing it in the trash when it’s “empty” you simply recharge it with the included USB cable.
As expected, a reusable lighter is going to cost more than the Dollar Tree POC (Piece of Crap) but it’s going to pay for itself quickly. And, the RONXS Plasma Arc BBQ Lighter is currently 29% off plus Amazon is offering an additional 5% off if you click the little coupon box. That makes it a mear twelve bucks (prices can change quickly!!).
For those building an earthquake kit, hurricane kit, or any kind of preparedness kit (isn’t that all of us?) I feel that this would be a great addition. Yes, it relies on power to recharge and that can pose a problem during a blackout but you can use your car charger in a pinch…or any of those backup solar charging packs that I’ll feature another time.
Pros:
-rechargeable
-approximately 600 “lights” per full charge
-windproof and splash-proof (perfect for emergencies or inclement weather)
-cost-effective (how much money have you tossed away with each disposable lighter?)
-zero butane
-easy to use
-auto shut off
Cons-
-might not be as rugged (dropping on hard surfaces can damage it)
-not suitable for families with small children…the “safety switch” is really an on/off switch that slides very easily. Once on, you simply push a button to activate.
