Hello Mutineers! If you’ve followed us here on the website or on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook, you know that I like to share the things we actually use around Mutiny Ranch. Since our interests are diverse these items range from animal care to gardening implements but also footwear and kitchen gadgets. No matter what the item is though if we recommend it here then we personally own and use it or have researched it enough to have it on our “wishlist”.
The Mutiny Ranch Item of the Day for 3/30/2021 is the Boomjoy Hands-Free Flat Mop…quite possibly the smartest mop design out there.
Truth be told I’m not the best housekeeper in the world. I used to be pretty good at it back when I lived alone in a nice apartment and worked 14 hours a day. But then again, I wasn’t ever home to dirty things up. And when we were RVing it wasn’t too difficult to stay on top of things when our house was only 300 square feet. But now we live in a 1300 square foot house. On a farm. With lots of animals. And mud. And dust.
While I wouldn’t trade what we have right now for any other lifestyle it does make keeping the house clean a challenge. I can sweep and mop the kitchen (with its unfortunate white linoleum) and 5 minutes later it will be covered in muddy paw prints and maybe some cat puke. And that will be the exact moment a guest shows up. I’m sure I’m not alone, right?
I’ve often felt that I’ve had a mop obsession. I read mop reviews. I ask people in the cleaning aisle of the grocery store what mop they use. I’ve bought rope mops, mops with sponge heads, mops you squeeze, mops you twist, infomercial mops, and even resorted to Swiffer mops when I got really desperate. There are many reasons I dislike the Swiffer which include the waste (I ended up crocheting covers I could wash and reuse,) the heavy, synthetic fragrances in their mop pads, the expense, and the fact that it would take 5 pads to mop my kitchen…but they were convenient.
Pretty much every mop I tried was not pet-owner friendly. They simply pushed dog and cat around, left dirty grey streaks, and stunk even if I was careful to rinse them and hang them to dry. Needless to say, I skeptical about the Boomjoy Flat Mop but the dang ad kept popping up in my Facebook and Instagram feeds. How did they know I was a mop freak??
Last March I finally pulled the trigger and bought the Boomjoy and it’s almost been life-changing (I mean, it’s still a mop). It’s held up exceptionally well over the past year and all three mop pads still look new despite almost daily use.
Things I like about the Boomjoy…
– The mop bucket has a wet and dry side with scrapers built-in. These help remove anything stuck to the mop including pet hair. The dry side does a great job removing excess moisture totally hands-free.
– The pads lock onto the mop head via slots and velcro so they don’t slide off while scrubbing.
– The kit comes with 3 microfiber pads that are all machine washable and reusable.
– Everything is self-contained with a small footprint. The mop can be stored standing up in one of the slots (remember to dump the mop water so it doesn’t stink) or it can be disassembled and stored inside the mop container. I’m thinking it would have been great in the RV to be able to tuck away.
– The mop bucket (container) is small and not very mop bucket looking. =)
– The handle is stainless steel and feels nice…not flimsy.
There are several different brands of flat mops available now but I’ve only used the Boomjoy so I can’t offer a comparison. It also appears Boomjoy has a few new options with different stylings upgrades that might appeal to some of you. But one thing is for sure…the squeegee action that cleans the mop head is magical.
Mopping is still not one of my favorite activities. And it’s likely that the dogs or Clark or I will muddy up the floors immediately after I mop but the Boomjoy makes the chore a little less frustrating.
